What is mobile number portability (MNP) in India? Mobile number portability (MNP) in India is the process of transferring (porting) your mobile phone number from one Indian mobile phone network provider to another. You may want to do this if you wish to sign up to a new mobile phone provider and keep your original mobile phone number, thus saving you the inconvenience of updating your contacts with your new telephone number.

Mobile number porting is not yet available in India due to some technical delays. The latest date for MNP in India is 1 november 2010. Mobile number portability allows you to transfer your mobile phone number from your current provider to a new mobile phone operator. With MNP Process you can shift to another operator of your choice, but keep your old number. Best is, you don’t have to go through the trouble of informing all your friends & family that your number has changed - it stays the same.
