Samsung To Release Gingerbread Update For Galaxy S

Samsung will apparently release Android OS 2.3, also known as Gingerbread, on the popular Samsung Galaxy S smartphone.
Unwiredview reports that Samsung Mobile India published two separate Twitter updates that say that the update will be released for the Galaxy S although there are no exact details as to when they will be rolled out.
Users in Western European countries are likely to get the update before everybody else. There's not a big difference between Gingerbread and Froyo.
The former uses the Linux Kernel 2.6.35 against 2.6.32 for Froyo. Gingerbread now supports NFC, SIP and should offer better power management as well.
Gingerbread was launched last week together with the Nexus S; we suspect that other manufacturers will also announce Gingerbread updates in the coming weeks as well as Gingerbread smartphones as well.
LG however has already confirmed that it won't be upgrading its LG Optimus handsets to Android OS 2.3.
